*Job Summary*
This position is accountable on a 24-hour basis for the
organization, implementation, and evaluation of clinical care in
the surgical areas with direct reporting accountability. This
position is responsible for the development, monitoring and
evaluation of the capital and operating budgets in the surgical
areas. Responsible for providing overall leadership for decision
support and supervises the Leadership in the surgical areas.
Responsible for oversight and success of joint partnerships
impacting surgical services. This position is also responsible for
ensuring that the level of care provided and the atmosphere in
which it is provided is consistent with the Mission, Vision, Values
and Guiding Principles of SRH.
*Essential Functions*
In collaboration with organizational leadership, enhance nursing
practice and patient outcomes. Assures successful implementation of
organizational strategies including but not limited to efficiency,
productivity, throughput, work place safety, patient satisfaction,
employee engagement, quality and key performance measures. Utilizes
Medial Staff Chain of Command when collaborative action is needed.
Elicits input and evaluates physician requests for capital
equipment. Collaborates with CFO and finance regarding procedural
costs and equipment requests and or requirements for a service
line. Manages the financial performance, identifying strategies to
reduce costs while improving efficiencies and quality. Ensures
policies, practices and procedures comply with administrative,
legal and regulatory requirements as well as governmental and
accrediting agencies. Maintains and updates regional administrative
polices and procedure related to surgical services. Participate in
outside organizations, which would benefit the outlined areas of
responsibility, such as AORN and AWONE. Plans agendas, presents
information, and works closely with Chair of Operating Room
Committee to continuously improve care and efficiency in surgical
services. Attend and participate on assigned hospital and medical
staff committees, task forces and meetings. Ensures Clinical
Managers and Charge RNs provide professional and clinical oversight
including mentoring of staff. Maintains positive working and
problem solving relationship with Anesthesia, surgeons, and service
line partners. Mentors surgical managers in development of
leadership skills, fiscally accountable staffing/scheduling
practices, professional development of staff and outcomes based
practice. Develops services that achieve a high level of customer
satisfaction with emphasis on customer service, highest standards
of quality and innovation. Manages the financial performance and
identifies and implements strategies to reduce costs while
improving efficiencies and quality services. Directs the budget and
resource allocations for designated departments. Completes
performance reviews and other administrative functions in a timely
and accurate manner. Accountable for all human resources, labor
relations and employee and department safety and risk management
issues to include employee health, mandatory education
requirements, licensing, etc. Consistently supports compliance and
the SRH code of conduct, policy and procedure, maintains the
privacy and confidentiality of information, protecting the assets
of the organization, acting with ethics and integrity, reporting
noncompliance, and adhering to applicable federal, state and local
laws and regulations, accreditation and licensing requirements.
Works actively with SRH Vice Presidents, Regional Directors,
Directors, Directors and others to improve and maintain a high
quality environment of care which meets regulatory
requirements.
*Education*
Bachelors of Science in Nursing. Masters in health related field or
applicable (MBA) field preferred and required to be obtained within
3 years of receiving the position.
*Experience/Training*
Minimum of five years clinical nursing experience required. Minimum
of five years of managerial experience required.
*License/Certifications*
Must maintain current licensure to practice nursing in the State of
Washington. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare
provider BLS required. Prefer Current American Heart Association
(AHA) Healthcare provider ACLS. Prefer Certification in Operative
or Leadership Nursing.
*Other Skills*
To effectively manage the responsibilities of this position, the
incumbent must have a broad base of general nursing knowledge and
surgical services. Progressive management experience is required.
Demonstrated strong interpersonal communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to lead through influence, and manage
regulations such as Joint Commission and CMS/DOH standards. Must be
able to work effectively and achieve results in a union
environment. Proven ability to deliver outcomes while meeting
organizational objectives, proven strong quantitative and IT
systems skills related to nursing fiscal operations.
*Physical Demands and Work Environment*
The physical demands described here are representative of those
that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the
essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of
this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This
position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending,
kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The
employee must frequently lift or move objects and patients weighing
over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job
include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral
vision, depth perception and ability to focus.
