Senior Manager II-Solid Waste Pay Range: $8,983 - $11,393 per month (Non-Bargaining Pay Plan, D64 Step 1-13) Hiring Range: $8,983 - $9,533 per month (Non-Bargaining Pay Plan, D64 Step 1-4 DOQ) Job Closing Date: July 3, 2025 There is one Senior Manager II opening with the Yakima County Public Services, Solid Waste Division. This position manages, directs, supervises the daily operations of two municipal solid waste landfills and two transfer stations, along with all the equipment necessary to operate each location. Oversees the proper disposal of all solid waste, heavily involved in construction and long term planning, and ensures compliance with governing agencies. Often makes critical decisions involving waste disposal, construction, operations, and employee issues. Is on call to respond to emergencies involving the landfills/transfer stations (24 hours a day-seven days per week), such as wildfires, alarm response, facility fires, inclement weather conditions, and equipment issues. Oversees the monitoring of gas probe wells, and the gas collection and control systems, the passive vents, and the soil vapor extraction system. Delegates duties and tasks, and advises a variety of Solid Waste managers and supervisors. Informs the ER&R Manager of equipment feature requirements and tracks the equipment status for replacement. Education & Experience: Associate’s degree or technical school degree in construction, environmental sciences, heavy equipment, mechanic or other related field and Eight (8) years of landfill operations experience including three years at the supervisory level OR an equivalent combination of education and experiences which provides knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. Required: Current copy of the driving record is required prior to employment. Successful completion of a general employment verification. Successful completion of general employment verification and pre-employment DOT Drug Testing Consent for queries of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse to comply with Federal Regulations (49 CFR Part 382). SWANA Manager of Landfill Operations (MOLO) certificate (or ability to obtain in 1 year) SWANA Manager of Transfer Station Operations certificate (or ability to obtain in 2 years) 40 Hour Hazwoper certificate (or ability to obtain in 1 year) Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences, construction, or related field and Six (6) years of relevant experience including three years of supervisory experience Applicable solid waste management experience Opacity certificate First Aid Training Proficient at operating heavy equipment, D9, scraper, excavator, etc Mechanics Technical Certificate or equivalent experience/training Environmental Science Degree Valid State of Washington Driver’s License with CDL class A endorsement (Note: If incumbent has a valid CDL, a current copy of the driving record is required prior to employment and pre-employment DOT Drug Testing and consent for queries of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse to comply with Federal Regulations (49 CFR Part 382 is required). recblid t7o3vhsqp1k51fe6g625kdr2hepee6
